Revelstoke’s 360-degree mountain views are awe-inspiring right from town but taking in the sights from the various vantage points in the area ups them to the next level. With the amazing blue skies and warm summer days we’ve been having so far, I saw the opportunity to create a full day of sightseeing from easily accessible vantage points that everyone can get to.
Camera in hand, I start my day off at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Though the summer gondola doesn’t go right to the top of the mountain, the views from the Gondola mid-station are quite impressive. The best part about starting your sightseeing day here is you get to enjoy a delicious, full breakfast from the viewing deck of the mid-mountain lodge. Rich coffee, fresh-made omelets, and even pulled-pork hash – the food certainly complements the view.
Looking across at downtown, the airport and the mountain backdrop formed by Boulder Mountain (left) and Frisby Ridge (right).
Fully satiated and fuelled for the rest of my sightseeing day, I head to the summit of Mount Revelstoke via the Meadows in the Sky Parkway. Mount Revelstoke National Park is incredibly accessible with its close proximity to town and easy drive up. The drive itself is very enjoyable, offering incredible vantage points and various lookout spots along the way plus frequent bear sightings! If you want all eyes out for wildlife spotting, Everything Revelstoke now offers a shuttle service up the mountain. A trip to the top of Mount Revelstoke is a must do for visitors and should be an annual tradition for locals.
No matter how many times I see a black bear, it doesn’t grow old. It seems that almost every time I drive up Mt. Revelstoke, I see at least one alongside the road.
Enjoy a short hike (1km) or courtesy shuttle to the summit lookout and trails of Mount Revelstoke. From this vantage point, you can see Lake Revelstoke and the many peaks in the surrounding area.
Back to town, it’s time to take in more views and work off our hardy breakfast with a casual bike cruise. The various community pathways that meander alongside the Columbia River and throughout town offer incredible 360-degree mountain views. If you don’t have a bike, Everything Revelstoke can hook you up with a bike rental so you don’t have to miss out on this traditional Revelstoke activity. A relaxing and enjoyable ride, you’ll be greeted by many smiling faces and canine friends along the way while you soak in the incredibly serene scenery.
Cruising on the community pathways is just a great and easy way to take in the views.
On the other side of the river, you get a completely different angle on the surrounding mountains.
These are just some of the many vantage points in and around Revelstoke and you are certainly privy to more when you take in some of the adventures in the area such as hiking, mountain biking, or kayaking. Whether you are a visitor or a local, make sure to get out there this summer and enjoy the many sights of Revelstoke.
